*** THE ORIGINAL BAYCOM EXCHANGE ***
February 1993 Vol. 1 No. 2
FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK: WOW! What a response! So much material received that
the March issue is done already! Remember, if I don't respond to you
personally, I'll do it in the newsletter here. Send material/questions to:
KB2BBW @ WA2SNA.NJ.USA.NA Enjoy! 73 de Chris KB2BBW (Big Bad Wolf) Editor.
V1.4:"I run V1.4 with a Tigertronics BP-1 tnc... What command would I use to
put my rig in Digi..." 73's Hugh (N7OKM @ KE6LW.CA) [Hugh, you're DCall
must be different from MYCALL. Set :MYCALL N7OKM and :DCALL N7OKM-2 - Ed.]
V1.4:"Hi Chris [Problem is as follows:] ...I am running on a digicom 64 modem
modified [converted to BAYCOM configuration] to interface with a Gateway
2000 model 4DX33V, 486 computer with local bus video interface. Now to the
problem... When I scroll any of the display windows the even columned
characters are lost. I exited the program when I had a good display in the
receive window and looked at the scc.vid file. All information was there.
When I restarted the program only odd columns for information was displayed
I then exited the program and looked at the scc.vid file again. Only odd
columns of information were displayed. All even columns are spaces. Any
ideas?" Lee (WT0D @ WA0RJT.IA) [Check buffer size parameters and fool
around with vadapter in SCC.INI file. Can anybody help? - Ed]
V1.5:"...I'd like to know what the number in the monitor window is: the number
between the T: (or R:) and the time." Rick (WB1GQU @ WA1WOK.NH) [To the
right of the time is the PORT number. Changing your port with the F-keys
will change this number. Next, the I is for Insert-Mode or R for overwrite
mode. (Toggle with INS key). Last is the status for the Umlaut Display.
(Switchable by ALT-U). - Ed.]
L2:"I was wondering if L2 does the X.25 Packet encoding if it is possible for
some of the other BBS Packages to interface to the TNC thru L2? Also, this
concept seems to be what the program BPQ406 is doing? Is BPQ406 shareware?"
Tim (KD4OFO @ W4NJA.KY)
MINI-BBS: John (N7JBO @ N7DXT.OR) has configured V1.4 and V1.5 as a mini
BBS/Mailbox. For a copy, send him packet mail.
SCC CARD: Many hams have been inquiring about the internal SCC card. One
source is PacComm. Their PCM-1 and -2 also supports G8BPQ Node software
and Packet Cluster operation. DCD is also available. (813) 874-2980.
TH-77A & BAYCOM:"I have the PacComm version of BayCom 1.5, the PacComm modem,
a Kenwood TH-77A HT, and the MFJ cable designed to interconnect TNCs and
Kenwood HTs. Receive is ok, the problem is transmitting. For some reason
the HT "thinks" it's being told to go into scan mode and starts scanning
each time BayCom tries to send a packet..." Andy (KB7UV @ KB7UV.NY) [Andy
suspects it's the cable. Can anybody else help him with this? - Ed.]
YAPP:"...I have the BP-1 using Baycom v1.4, and am very happy with it.Is there
a way to incorporate YAPP protocol file transfer into the Baycom program?
Is there possibly another Baycom type program that has YAPP built in? Kevin
(N8SXU @ KB8GNF.OH) [Kevin, there is a YAPP for BayCom. VE3TPW and I are
currently hunting down a copy that is floating around in CANADA somewhere.
If anybody else has a copy, please let us know! - Ed.]
SUCCESS STORIES:"I use a Tigertronics modem with a GRIDCASE II laptop - with a
Heath HW-24 talkie as my portable station. Works great on either 145 or
440Mhz." Jim (W5ZIT @ N0IA.NV)
***** SOFTWARE GUIDE FOR THE BAYCOM MODEM *****
BAYCOM V1.2 - Terminal Program for PC's without a TNC by Florian Radher
(DL8MBT) and Johannes Kneip (DG3RBU). Developed in 1989/90.
Screen editor, 3-part split screen (TX, RX and Monitor),
scroll capability, 8 ports, supports EGA video, screen save.
The only bug is an inoperational DIGI feature. (See Vol. 2 No.
12 Dec 1991 of DIGICOM EXCHANGE)
BAYCOM V1.4 - New updates to V1.2 includes: Operation with AM7911 modems,
system messages are switchable between German and English, log
file, DISC timer, switchable between Insert and Overwrite, DOS
Shell, remote control within limits, 50 and 60 line VGA
display, Personalized connect text, and more. Although DIGI
bug has been fixed, BTEXT and QTEXT now have bugs. (See Vol. 2
No. 12 Dec 1991 of DIGICOM EXCHANGE)
BAYCOM V1.5 - Supports COM 1 and COM 2. Bugs seen in V1.2 and V1.4 are
fixed, but now there seems to be a keyboard buffer bug in
V1.5. Experimental version.
BAYCOM V1.5A - This is the US copyrighted version of Baycom. You may make
copies for personal use only. (See "Legal Stuff" in BAYCOM
EXCHANGE Vol.1 No.1). All bugs have been correected,
additional ports are supported. More parameters in SCC.INI.
Eskay packet - Also known as SP or Super Packet. It has about the same screen
layout as Baycom, but has many more features, such as 35+
remote commands, autorouting, binary transfers, and up to 10
simultaneous connections, to name a few. In order to use it
with the Baycom modem. Must use the driver called TFPCX.EXE.
This driver is what actually does the work of the TNC.
GRAPHIC PACKET - Very impressive program that also works with the TFPCX.EXE
driver available in Eskay Packet. It does not have as many
features as Eskay Packet, but is easy on the eyes. It has auto
binary transfers, on-screen clock, up to 10 multi-connects,
and mouse support.
WG7J NOS - Note that there are many different versions of NOS. You can
find NOS on just about any good ham bbs. You will also need a
driver to use the Baycom modem. The most current one at this
time is AX921123.ZIP. Some of the earlier versions of this
driver had bugs, so beware.
[Sources for software: Eskay and WG7J NOS Driver - Cleveland Hamnet BBS
(216) 942-7516 and (216) 942-6382 as SPV61012.ZIP and AX921123.ZIP
respectively. Graphic Packet - Precision Board at (708)391-8773 as
GRFPK122.ZIP. Many tnx to Jeff (N9NGF @ W9QYQ.IN) who helped with the
list and sources. - Ed.]
NEXT MONTH: Heavy programming delemas! More software reviews!
